Final call on portraits

I had been hooked to portraits all these while.

Whether I can do hyper-realistic portraits? Whether there is finesse in art? Whether I can notice micro changes? Whether I can implement micro changes?

I don't think I can be in level 1 of portraits.  I am at level 3.

Here is a recent portrait drawn of Jayam Ravi. Ponniyin Selvan.  Raja raja chozhan.

The portrait took two hours. Brustro skin tone colored pencils used. Brolaviya mobile stand used. DaVinci eye app used. Luna watercolor pencils used.  An HB pencil used.

Also I got for myself English shortened, kindle book on Ponniyin Selvan.  Though I read first three sections.  4th and 5th I hurried through.  I shall see in the movie.

Thanks for reading.

Good bye for now.

An eye for quality

My stock ideas on mathematics is over.

My stock ideas on portraits drawing is through.

But I want to contribute and keep blogging.  I plan to write on quality.

Quality is damn important.  Edwards Deming and Shewart showed us the way, way back in 1940s and 1950s.

I shall be writing on quality and shall showcase certain quality products and services.  This is because I want to develop quality in all of us. This is vital for all of us.

I believe quality and good conscience can get rid of laziness and staticness. So quality is an immediate and important thrust area.

To begin with I want to talk on the quality of my  Brolaviya mobile stand.  It is pretty good. It has made it possible that I am able to apply my thoughts on portraits drawing.

The stand was bought from Amazon.  It is sturdy. No rough edges. Easy to assemble.  And fix. And does not move a millimeter when used. It's mobile holder is also sturdy and the ball hinge made of stainless steel has sufficient grip.

A great product for artists and for YouTube video making. It can be used for sturdy group photos too, I think.

No looking further

I am into portraits for the last three years at least. And I gained insight only yesterday.  Insight about approach.

What is this world of portraits? And how it is relevant in India? And what is the impact on young Indians?

We never had a culture of portraits except for kings and great men. While in the western world drawing portraits was practiced a lot.

Today is the world of glamor.  There are high resolution cameras which can click the deepest pores. And then digital technology which can show these faces. And photo editing tools which can enhance these pictures.

So the today's world of digital images is confusing and is difficult.  In fact impossible.

Youngsters get confused.

I have two solutions to it. One shading of different type. Two using watercolors along with shading of the type I am talking of.  These are of my Jesus and one can accept and follow them with open arms. 🙏

Shading my way

Watercolor and shading my way

As my techniques closely follow the property of light and of water, they are foundational.

I can't see youngsters spending upto 60 or more hours doing hyper-realistic portraits.  Some get wooden faces. Some have wrong shading.

I don't claim I am perfect. I claim I am complete. I may have errors. I may have shortcomings.  I think it is due to age. But my teachings are foundational.

One may follow them partially too to get better results in their current method too.

Have a nice day.

My hyper-realistic portraits objective is not feasible

I did three portraits today. Yesterday I did not draw because it was Saraswati pooja.  Yesterday was a day for prayers only. Today was a day of practice.  And I did three portraits.

Amisha Patel. Shyam Benegal. Karthi, of Ponniyin  Selvan I fame.

I realized I am good in macro tonal control only. Not micro tonal control.

And I am good in three shades only. White, shade 1 and darker than shade 1.

Also I am average in hair rendering.

Under these circumstances hyper-realistic portraits are tough. Only realistic Portraits are feasible.

If I get a guru and/or sit with a good artist perhaps I can become a hyper-realistic artist. But otherwise it seems impossible.

Goodbye for now. Have a nice day!!

( I realized my drawings were not complete.  It is not about perfection.  But completeness. I am submitting a complete Art. To the best of my ability.  I am 54 years old)

Deeper thinking

Today is Saraswati pooja. The ninth day of Navaratri. But possibly only in South Navaratri. When we were kids we looked forward to this day because we were not supposed to study today. Only pray to goddess Saraswati.

On this day I am writing my deepest thoughts that is present inside in art, mathematics and music. This helps me in my mind control. And today I will pray to goddess Saraswati that I am able to convert these mind thoughts to practical educational steps.

Art

Portraits

The deepest thoughts is of focus approach in shading technique.  I achieve gradience and tonal control by focusing lines. I do not follow cross-hatch technique.

Landscape

The deepest thoughts is of shadows and light. A very dark pencil and a very light pencil.

Cartoons

The deepest thoughts is of Satan and body. Clothes as against face and hands

Caricatures

The deepest thoughts are of golden ratio. And I intend to exaggerate golden ratio proportions and achieve funny faces.

Mathematics

My deepest thoughts are of 1, x, x squared triangle. And 1, 1/x, 1/x squared triangles. Now I can see golden ratio and it's inverse. So to me the triangles of 1,x,x squared  and 1, 1/x,1/x squared triangles exist.  However 1/x squared side cannot be smaller than 1/x. Due to triangles property( When the two triangles are compared. Only then). This can be made possible in three ways. One it is 1/(x squared minus 1). Secondly it is 1/(x squared)+1. Thirdly it is 1/(x)(x-1). Now, when 1/x squared becomes lesser one realizes that light bends. And Pythagoras theorem is seen. And numbers are born. The third model of 1/(x)(x-1) is pretty suitable and is of consecutive numbers or Rational number series.

Music

I believe walking to be the basic mind model for beats or taal. And my dafli playing is imitation of walking using right hand in dafli.

I have written my deepest thoughts on mind direction.  And I pray to goddess Saraswati to guide me further.

I hope you all have a nice day !!

Ponniyin Selvan I review

Yesterday I saw the hindi dubbed version of Ponniyin Selvan.

I found the movie very good.  The characters were shown for their qualities very well. Each of the characters were shown in reasonable depth. And it is great qualities of the men and women which made the Chola kingdom a big empire.

Sometimes it made hard to relate the characters with places. And characters with other characters too. But I felt the beauty of individual scenes made up for this shortcoming.

The music was awesome.  ARRehman made great music. And good songs.

The costumes and background were excellent.  The war scenes great.

Mani Ratnam was excellent throughout.  Has shown great control over the movie.

Comparing Baahubali with Ponniyin Selvan will be wrong as Baahubali is entirely fictional.

I went to see the movie to see the individual characters. And I am happy that I got what I wanted. It is great men and women which made a great empire. And Ponniyin Selvan certainly did not disappoint.

Milestone achieved

I managed to achieve a big milestone in art. Realistic Portraits.

I was not clear on how to move from semi realistic to realistic part of Portraits.  And yesterday I closely observed a guy doing colored portraits.  And then I understood what needs to be done and where am I lacking.

So I drew Rajinikanth.

I feel ecstatic on achieving this milestone.
