Journey towards becoming a comic artist - 5

I have changed my plans towards becoming a comic artist.  And that is I shall include inking too in my daily practice.  What I mean is I shall practice man, woman, kids, animals, objects, buildings,  vegetations and all daily in different perspectives with pencils.  I shall also be inking them then and there or at a later time. I realized there is no point in doing inking at a later time. Whatever needs to be done for a complete comic namely drawing and inking, should be started immediately and both together.

So my complete comic practice starts from today. And I shall practice till 5 years or till when I am happy with my drawings.  Whichever is earlier.  Currently my plans are to stay in paper. Not going digital.

I am doing inking with these. I bought them about 7 years ago when doing cartoons. These were imported from USA.

Educational activities begin

 

Yesterday was a day of prayers and plans and wishes in education. 

And today the practice.  I took my bath. And after applying ashes on my forehead (Shiva tradition) I did namaskarams before God. And then I read a page from Ramanujan book. As a symbolism.

Aim

To be a very good comic artist.  To be a good colored pencils portrait artist. To have access to mathematics journals,  books and resources. 

Why

Comic artist because it encompasses all aspects of drawing namely accuracy, perspective, 3d and light and shadows. Colored pencils portrait artist because it is a money earner. Mathematics because I want to learn digamma,  partial sums, convergence, binomials, trigonometric functions,  hypergeometric functions, number theories and golden ratio applications.

I have Faber Castell polychromos pencils,  Doms colored pencils,  Camlin oil pastels,  Camlin poster colors,  colored gel pens, Staedtler Luna watercolor pencils,  Mont Marte skin colored pencils,  Brustro skin tone colored pencils,  Crayola skin colored pencils,  Crayola skin colored wax crayons,  Staedtler Mars Lumograph Drawing pencils,  Yissvic pencils set, Artline Drawing System gel pens black, waterproof black ink; and other local items like HB pencils, graded pencils, local black ink, black ballpoint pens, black 0.5 gel pens, black sketch pens; and also nibs and pen holder for cartoon making, local art brushes, blending sticks,  kneaded eraser, white gel pens, white charcoal pencils. I have partial differential equations book and complex analysis book and Wikipedia over internet for mathematics. I have Ochre colored notebook,  Grey colored notebook and thick and normal white A4 sized papers.

Then What

I will be able to teach society conceptually in golden ratio and pi and light and shades and consecutive numbers applications in drawing and mathematics. 

My plans and my prayers

There are so many great guys out there who should be emulated.

Euler, Gauss, Ramanujan in mathematics. 

Da Vinci, Raja Ravi Verma in art.

And the present day comic artists in West and  East.  

Starting from tomorrow I shall do the following 

1. Draw left hand. Same pose. Different angles.

2. Use a mirror and draw left hand. Same pose. Different angles. 

3. Use 3D modeling app and draw objects, animals, interiors, exteriors. Many possible angles. I have booked the app Rs 3200 for a year.

4. Draw perspective of humans in different angles.

5. Use normal student ink, fountain pen and brushes for inking as I will be a black and white comic artist.  No waterproof black ink needed.

Steps 1,2,3 in October,  November and December 2023.

Steps 4 and 5 from January 2024.

But only prayers it is for today.

The ninth day of Navratri

The ninth day of Navratri is important.  And today is the ninth day. 

It is Saraswati pooja for South Indians. And today we shall be praying for good knowledge.  Only prayers. No involvement in knowledge activities.  No practicing of comics or mathematics or official work.

Also you keep your materials related to knowledge in front of God for prayers. I shall be keeping Andrew Loomis book and Ramanujan book and a office file.

As my mother is old the setup here in Ranchi is simple. Just the pooja shelf. 

This is the Golu setup in Delhi. Made by my wife and my mother in law.

I am staying in Ranchi for Pooja and didn't go to Delhi.

Journey towards becoming a comic artist - 3

 I have made plans which are complete and which I feel are necessary in becoming a comic artist. 

Here it goes. 

(Why comic artist? Because to tell a story is a natural thing. Moreover I feel it can "naturally" improve the Indian economy.  And improving Indian economy is my kartavya.)

Navratri season begins

It is Navratri season for Hindus all over India. For North Indian hindus Dussehra. For East Indian hindus Durga Pooja. For West Indian hindus Garbha. For South Indian hindus Golu.

Ranchi being in east, Durga Pooja is celebrated. 

Here are two snaps of Durga Pooja pandals being set up inside our SAIL Satellite Colony in Dhurwa, Ranchi.

Journey towards becoming a comic artist - 2

I tried to complete one comic art. I did a pencil drawing with perspective in mind. Later I did inking with my black ball point pen. And afterwards I did coloring with Staedtler Luna watercolor pencils.  And then spread the watercolor shades with a wet brush. 

So my first comic art.

I shall be doing the above similar practices till December 2023. I shall include animals too. Animals like camel, horse, dog, cat, cow etc. Also I shall include objects like TV, computer,  sofa etc. I shall be working on outdoor facades too, till December 2023.

Once mastered, I shall start inking. January 2024 to March 2024. 

April 2024 to June 2024 shall be perspective,  inking and coloring with Faber Castell polychromos pencils. 

All the while till June 2024, I shall be doing a lot of variety in my drawings too. Mountains, temple, sea, jungle etc.

In six months

 My objective is to become a comic artist.

You may notice from above that 1. There are a lot of empty space. 2. The body is not proportional. 3. The hands have not been drawn exactly as they would while holding cash notes. 4. There is not enough "power" in the drawing. 5. The folds in clothes are not complete. And more . . . 

I want to improve. But is improvement possible? 

I believe improvement is possible. By steadfastly following Edward Deming's PDCA continuously for considerable amount of time. 

In six months time I want to improve my drawing and make them more comics equivalent. More exact. More specific. More power. 

I have a natural bend for PDCA and by repeated Planning, Doing, Checking and taking Action,  I want to improve my drawing in six months time.
